Requião: Cunha wants to be the PMDB's candidate in 2018.

247 Senator Roberto Requião, from the PMDB party, does not believe that the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB), will facilitate the processing of a procedure that culminates in the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff. He believes that Cunha "will not make it easy for the PSDB to take power," as he believes that the congressman may want to run for president of the country in 2018.

"Eduardo Cunha's party is called Eduardo Cunha. Cunha will not make it easy for the PSDB to seize power. Eduardo Cunha's project is to be absolutely hegemonic in the PMDB, to remove Temer and the others, and to take control of the Republic. This young man has a presidential vocation. He will never force impeachment for the PSDB and those people to take over the government. He wants the reinforcement of his PMDB," he states, in an interview with Luis Nassif's GGN website.

According to Requião, Cunha's intention is to become "hegemonic" within the PMDB party, in order to be a candidate for president of the Republic in the next election. The senator also criticizes the opinion of jurist Ives Gandra Martins, raising the possibility of impeaching President Dilma for negligence in the Petrobras case.

"That's nonsense! The opinion makes no sense at all because an impeachment is a political judgment. [Former President Fernando] Collor was impeached by Congress and acquitted by the Supreme Court. It's a political judgment. Strictly speaking, technically, an impeachment would only be admissible with proof of intent. They are creating a subsidiary line of thought about the 'command of the facts,' the supposed 'command of the facts,'" he stated.
