247 The Workers' Party (PT) will ask the courts for authorization to allow former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to record videos with political messages while he is imprisoned. The party intends to release these recordings to reinforce his campaign for the presidency.

The national president of the PT (Workers' Party), Senator Gleisi Hoffmann, told Folha that Lula "is within his prerogative." "He is a citizen and can express himself politically," she stated.

Lawyer Eugênio Aragão, Minister of Justice in Dilma Rousseff's government and Deputy Attorney General for Electoral Affairs, is expected to make the request in the coming days and will send a petition to Judge Carolina Moura Lebbos, who is responsible for the former president's criminal execution.

"As long as he is eligible to be a candidate, as is the case now, he has the right to express himself on equal terms with the other pre-candidates. There can be no discrimination," Aragão stated.

Lula's candidacy is likely to be rejected based on the Clean Record Law, but, according to the PT (Workers' Party), the decision can only be made after the former president has his name registered with the Electoral Court.

Before turning himself in to the Federal Police on April 7th, Lula stated that he had recorded a series of videos to be used during the PT's presidential campaign.

Leading in the polls

A CUT/Vox Populi survey, released this Monday (28), indicated that former president Lula maintains his advantage over the other presidential candidates and, in a possible second round, would defeat any opponent by a wide margin of votes.

In the simulated scenario, when the candidates' names are presented to the respondents, Lula reached 39% of voting intentions compared to 30% for the combined total of his opponents.

In second place is Congressman Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), with 12%, followed by former Senator Marina Silva (Rede), with 6%, and former Minister Ciro Gomes (PDT), with 4%. Next are former Governor of São Paulo Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), with 3%, and Álvaro Dias (Podemos), with 2%.

According to the survey, Manuela D'Ávila (PC do B), Henrique Meirelles (MDB-GO), and João Amoedo (Novo-RJ) each have 1% of the voting intentions. Guilherme Boulos (Psol-SP), Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), João Vicente Goulart (PPL), Flávio Rocha (PRB-RN), and Paulo Rabelo de Castro (PSC) did not score any points.

The percentage of those who will not vote for anyone, blank votes, and null votes totaled 21%, and those who did not know or did not answer totaled 9%.
