PT postpones again and the saga of the vice-presidential candidate in BH continues.

This is the fourth time the party has postponed the date to choose the running mate for the current mayor of Belo Horizonte, Marcio Lacerda; the impasse between the PT factions is delaying the solution, which may even come from the National Executive Committee in São Paulo.

Minas 247 - The division among the PT factions forced the party leadership in Belo Horizonte to postpone, once again, the meeting that will choose the candidate for vice-mayor of the capital on the ticket headed by Marcio Lacerda (PSB), who is seeking re-election in October.

There are pre-candidates to suit all tastes. The main ones are the city's attorney general, Marco Antônio Rezende Teixeira, a name with a more technical profile that is more pleasing to Mayor Lacerda; the secretaries of Social Policy, Jorge Nahas, and of Public Works and Infrastructure, Murilo Valadares; state deputy André Quintão, linked to former mayor and former minister Patrus Ananias; federal deputy Miguel Corrêa Jr., from the group of Minister Fernando Pimentel, among others. There are seven confirmed names in the race.

The impasse led to the fourth postponement of the Workers' Party meeting. The meeting scheduled for next Sunday will now only take place on June 10th. Although the Workers' Party leadership does not officially admit it, an intervention by the National Executive Committee in São Paulo to resolve the situation is not ruled out.

The PT postponed, this Thursday (17), for the fourth time, its meeting to define the name of the candidate for vice-mayor in the coalition for the reelection of the mayor of Belo Horizonte, Márcio Lacerda (PSB), according to federal deputy Reginaldo Lopes, president of the municipal directory of the PT of Minas Gerais.

The meeting that was scheduled for next Sunday will now take place on June 10th.

"If the situation persists, we should have a second round in the contest to choose Lacerda's running mate," the Workers' Party member stated.

According to Lopes, since there are seven confirmed names on the ticket for the race, it is difficult for any of them to surpass the 50% mark in the contest.

"If it were today, we would certainly have a second round."

The congressman also stated that, due to the intensification of the dispute, and the fact that none of the candidates are willing to withdraw their name, a candidacy from a Workers' Party member outside the list could emerge, potentially uniting the various factions.

“We will continue the talks and continue looking for a consensus name.” Also on Thursday (17) the PSB agreed to form a proportional coalition (in the election of councilors) with the PT.

“I met today (Thursday, 17) with former minister Walfrido (dos Mares Guia) who confirmed the proportional coalition of the PSB with the PT, which will still indicate the name of the vice-presidential candidate,” said Lopes.

Mares Guia is the president of the state directory of the PSB in Minas Gerais. The socialists are facing great pressure from members of the PT and PSDB who want a proportional coalition with the PSB. However, neither side accepts the other in the alliance.
