247 – The PSDB voted overwhelmingly in favor of approving the amendment to Provisional Measure 664, which allows for the relaxation of the Social Security Factor, a change that did not have the support of the Presidential Palace.

The mechanism, which limits the retirement benefits of younger people, was created during Fernando Henrique Cardoso's administration, proving that the defeat of Dilma Rousseff's government demonstrates a lack of party coherence at a time when fiscal adjustment efforts are underway.

The amendment will be incorporated into the text of the Provisional Measure to allow workers to retire without the application of the Social Security Factor after 30 years of service for women and 35 years for men, provided that the sum of their service time and age is equal to or greater than 85 for women and 95 for men.

Shortly before, lawmakers had approved the core text of Provisional Measure 664, which alters the rules for accessing social security benefits, such as survivor's pensions, by a relatively large margin.

The deputy leader of the government in the Chamber of Deputies, Silvio Costa (PSC-PE), says that the president should veto the measure. He blamed the PCdoB and PDT blocs, which voted overwhelmingly in favor of the amendment presented by Deputy Arnaldo Faria de Sá (PTB-SP), and demanded that the two parties in the government's base be punished by President Dilma.
