PSB officially nominates Lacerda as candidate for re-election in Belo Horizonte.

But the most important question remains a mystery: will the socialists agree to form a proportional list of candidates for city council with the PT? PSB pre-candidates are resisting.

Minas 247 - Mayor Marcio Lacerda was confirmed by the PSB party as its candidate for re-election as mayor of Belo Horizonte. The party convention was held this Saturday morning at the Minas Gerais Legislative Assembly. The meeting only formalized what was already known, but the most important details remain shrouded in mystery.

Will the PSB candidates for city council agree to form a joint ticket with the PT candidates? So far, the alliance between the two parties remains, with the PT nominating federal deputy Miguel Corrêa Júnior, linked to the Minister of Development, Fernando Pimentel, as their running mate.

The issue is that the Socialist pre-candidates are resisting forming a joint ticket for city council with the PT (Workers' Party). There is a fear that the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party), in such a situation, might not even elect any council members in Belo Horizonte. Hence the resistance.

On the other hand, however, PT members threaten to abandon Marcio Lacerda if the proportional representation list doesn't materialize. The PT's calculations are the opposite: alone, the party would elect no more than three council members, a number that would increase to at least eight in alliance with the socialists.

Lacerda will seek re-election four years after being chosen as the head of an unusual alliance, at the time, between members of the Workers' Party (PT) and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). A former secretary to then-governor Aécio Neves (PSDB), he was elected with the support of Aécio himself and the mayor at the time, now Minister Pimentel.
