PSB presents its options for the Recife election.
Four secretaries linked to the party are expected to leave the Pernambuco government this Friday; Governor Eduardo Campos' objective is to have options to launch his own candidacy or nominate a vice-mayor for the capital of Pernambuco.
Raphael Coutinho _PE247 – Already thinking about October, this Friday (8) the dismissals of secretaries Danilo Cabral (Cities), Geraldo Júlio (Economic Development), Sileno Guedes (Social Articulation) and Tadeu Alencar (Civil House) should be published in the State Official Gazette. The four are part of the PSB, nationally chaired by Governor Eduardo Campos, and should leave the government this weekend. The list includes the governor's strongest names for an indication for the City Hall, either as a candidate or as vice-mayor on the PT ticket headed by Senator Humberto Costa.
However, the decision of the Popular Front leader regarding whether or not to launch a candidate in the Pernambuco capital will depend on political negotiations going forward. According to an article published by Diario de Pernambuco, sources close to the governor revealed that "he is not satisfied with the current scenario." The report states that "the wear and tear on the PT due to its internal crisis has affected the electoral process and could harm the final result of the race."
However, the dismissal of four secretaries is a strong indication that the governor could, in the event of the decline of Senator Humberto Costa's candidacy, launch a candidate from the PSB party. Eduardo, in addition to having more options for such a significant choice, would also have the full-time support of three figures from his inner circle in structuring the likely campaign of his chosen candidate.
Among the options, the former Secretary of Cities appears as the strong favorite to run independently for the PSB in Recife, should Eduardo deem that to be the party's path. Behind the scenes, Danilo has been pointed to as the natural candidate for the socialists for quite some time now. We'll have to wait and see how this story unfolds.
