247 - What the opposition had been hammering away at did not materialize, according to a survey by the Vox Populi Institute, the results of which were released by columnist Ilimar Franco this Friday, the 7th.

The 'mensalão' trial, which convicted members of the Workers' Party (PT) and almost implicated former president Lula – considered by the mainstream press as the biggest corruption scandal in history – did not affect the PT's image for the majority of voters.

The PT and the mensalão scandal.

The Vox Populi Institute measured the damage caused to the PT (Workers' Party) by the Mensalão trial. The survey, conducted in May among PT supporters, recorded that the party's image did not change for 59%. It worsened for 26% and improved for 11%. Its performance is considered positive by 59% and negative by 23%. The PT currently enjoys the support of 29% of those surveyed, the same level as before the scandal.
