247 - The national president of the PDT party, Carlos Lupi, said he is in talks with state directorates to decide who the party should support in the second round of the presidential election. According to... CNN BrazilThe expectation is that the announcement will be made by Wednesday. According to the report, "an informal consultation with members of the national leadership showed a tendency to support Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), but the party also wants to hear from the state directorates."

On Sunday (2), the party's defeated candidate for President of the Republic, Ciro GomesHe said that the country is experiencing a "potentially threatening" situation and asked for time to take a position on the second round of the presidential election between Lula and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The vice-president of the PDT, Federal deputy Pompeo de MattosPompeo indicated that the party should support former president Lula (PT) in the second round of elections against Jair Bolsonaro (PL). “We have to evaluate this collectively. But the PDT has always been with the PT in the second round. This decision, however, will be made collectively at the beginning of this week,” Pompeo said shortly after Ciro's statement.

According to CNN Brazil, "according to sources close to the PDT member, he is reconsidering his position after the election results – which were interpreted by some party leaders as a possible nod to the PT candidate." Ciro is expected to announce whether or not he will support either candidate after meeting with the party's executive committee.

The MDB, which nominated Senator Simone Tebet for the race, is also consulting with state directorates, although the official position is one of "neutrality." "One proposal under discussion is that, despite the liberalization of party endorsements, national leaders should publicly support Lula, including Tebet," the report emphasizes.

The president of União Brasil, Luciano Bivar, said that the party emerged “extremely victorious” by electing a larger bench than in 2018 and that this puts the party in the position to make whatever decision it wants in the second round. União Brasil is expected to meet by Tuesday (4) to decide whether or not to support one of the candidates.
