PCdoB confirms Manuela as presidential candidate.
According to the national president of the PCdoB, Luciana Santos, Manuela D'Ávila's candidacy, in addition to strengthening the party, has contributed to raising the level of the electoral contest and also to the search for unity within the progressive field; however, the party's speech at the national convention taking place this Wednesday also reaffirms the importance of the left uniting in the first round; "The PCdoB will continue until the last minute making every possible effort to build a unified path with progressive forces," declared Luciana.
By Dayane Santos, from Red Portal - In her speech, Luciana referred to Manuela D'Ávila – who is expected to be officially nominated as a candidate for President of the Republic – as an expression of the desire for women and young people to have more protagonism.
"Manuela has been raising the flag of the PCdoB, spreading the ideas expressed in our program, expanding the area of influence, and breaking down prejudices and ignorance about the party. It is in the nature of communists that we grow in adversity. Manu, facing even the most bitter opponents, is not intimidated, and she asserts herself with gallantry. She has earned respect, affection, and admiration wherever she goes. Manuela is today one of the key figures in this historic electoral contest," emphasized the communist leader, amidst applause from the party members.
According to Luciana, Manuela's candidacy, in addition to strengthening the party, has contributed to raising the level of the electoral contest and also to the search for unity within the progressive camp.
"You will never hear a word from her that serves to divide our camp, quite the opposite. The enemy is on the other side of the river. And even so, when the subject is Brazil, it is necessary to build bridges, to have dialogue in search of what is best for Brazilians," she said.
Even though the party has its own candidate for the presidency, the PCdoB has insisted on the strategy that unity within the left and progressive camp increases its chances of winning the election for the fifth consecutive time.
"Faced with the serious threats hanging over the nation and democracy, the PCdoB will continue until the last minute making every possible effort to build a unified path with progressive forces, and to win the presidential elections for the fifth time," he stressed.
Luciana reaffirmed that the pursuit of unity will continue "until the very last moment." "The tireless struggle for the unity of popular, democratic, and progressive forces is in the DNA of the PCdoB. Whenever democratic and popular forces have united around just causes, Brazil has benefited," she declared.
However, he stressed that Manuela's name in the race is up to the challenges facing Brazil, as it "represents the synthesis of the best that our country's political figures have to offer."
Government project
The communist leader, who is also a federal deputy for Pernambuco, highlighted the main points of the government program that the party is presenting to Brazilian voters as an alternative. She stated that the project is the result of a dialogue with experts, organized sectors of society, and the course of Manuela's pre-campaign, in addition to the manifesto signed by the foundations of the PT, PCdoB, PDT, and PSOL parties.
"The document seeks to point out new directions for Brazil. Structured around three major unifying axes—State, sovereignty and structural reforms; economic development and the fight against social inequalities; and democracy, rights and freedoms—we present the guidelines of our government program for debate with society," he argued.
Successful management
According to the president of the PCdoB, the success of the administrations led by the party has strengthened its relevance in elections. She cited the administrations of Flávio Dino in Maranhão and Edvaldo Nogueira in Aracaju as examples of administrations that "qualify us to present ourselves in the presidential race."
According to Luciana, Edvaldo has been promoting changes in Aracaju. "With his broad approach, he has managed to unlock opportunities and attract investments, and with planned action, he seeks to recover Aracaju's reputation as a capital city known for its quality of life," she praised.
Regarding Maranhão, the leader said that Flávio Dino, the candidate for re-election and favorite in the polls, "has been carrying out a true revolution."
"Today, his administration is recognized as one of the best in Brazil. In times of crisis, it is one of the few places where the economy grows, where public accounts are balanced, where investments are made, schools are built, and the highest teacher salary in Brazil is paid, approximately R$ 5.700. In our struggle to defeat the old Sarney oligarchy and continue the changes that are underway, Flávio demonstrated that it is possible to build what we have been advocating for Brazil: the formation of a Broad Front," he said. Flávio Dino has the support of 15 parties from various ideological currents.
Temer is Alckmin
Luciana did not hold back in her criticism of Michel Temer's government and the conservative consortium's strategy around the candidacy of Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB-SP). According to her, this convergence on the right serves to maintain an anti-national and anti-popular agenda.
"The ghost of the Temer government has been embodied in Alckmin's candidacy. It's important to say, in no uncertain terms, that Alckmin is Temer, and Temer is Alckmin, who walks hand in hand with Eduardo Cunha's group," said the president of the PCdoB, emphasizing that despite the apparent advantage of the PSDB candidate, who will have the most radio and TV time, broad media support, and support from parts of the judiciary, the candidacy of the conservative camp "has not yet resonated with the electorate."
"The legacy they have to present to the voter is not at all vote-mobilizing. In these almost three years of Temer PSDB misrule, Brazil has closed 13 industries, and more than 1 million people have become unemployed," she pointed out, stressing that the cut in public investments has led the country to regress in several areas, such as the increase in infant mortality and the number of families living on the streets. "In São Paulo, the richest state in the federation and governed by the PSDB for more than twenty years, there are more than 700 people living on R$ 136 a month," she said. "It is against this that we need to put a stop," she concluded.
