247 – Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota commented on Tuesday, the 30th, on the statements made by the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Joaquim Barbosa, that Itamaraty is "one of the most discriminatory institutions in Brazil".

"Regarding Minister Joaquim Barbosa's comment, I believe he is referring primarily to a different era at Itamaraty (the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in which situations of discrimination may have occurred," said the Foreign Minister during a press conference.

"Nowadays," Patriota continued, "on the contrary, there is an effort to correct this legacy of discrimination in Brazil," the minister stated.

In an interview with the newspaper O Globo over the weekend, Barbosa stated that he himself was discriminated against during the selection process at Itamaraty (the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), but that in the end it was a favor, since "all diplomats would like to be in the position" he is in today, he said.
