According to the PSDB leader, the PT "does not accept" challenges.
Deputy Bruno Araújo (PSDB-PE) criticizes the intention of PT members to resume the debate on media regulation in light of the likely election of the party's Secretary of Communication, André Vargas, as vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies.
247 – The leader of the PSDB in the Chamber of Deputies, Bruno Araújo (PE), said that the PT "does not accept" challenges from the press and, therefore, advocates for a return to the debate on media regulation. "This is the same PT that always denied the mensalão scandal, that sympathizes with those convicted, that speaks of a conspiracy against the government. This is the party that does not accept any kind of challenge, of contradiction," the PSDB member attacked.
According to a report by Valor Econômico Published this Monday, PT members were encouraged to revisit the issue given the likely election of the PT's Secretary of Communication, André Vargas, as vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies. However, according to Araújo, the fact that André Vargas is assuming the vice-presidency does not give the parliamentarian any legitimacy to bring the discussion back to the forefront.
"The PT can think whatever it wants, but we hope that what Dilma always used as a discourse, which marches far from censorship against the press, will prevail. That is what the PSDB fights for, for total freedom of the media, which forms one of the most important pillars of democracy," the congressman added.
According to a report in Valor, a project on the subject, drafted by former Communications Minister Franklin Martins, was delivered two years ago to President Dilma Rousseff and the current Minister of Communications, Paulo Bernardo. However, nothing has been done with the document so far. The opposition has already stated that the matter lacks the support to be approved in Congress.
