247 – The PT leader in the Chamber of Deputies, Representative Sibá Machado (AC), classified the arrest of the party's treasurer, João Vaccari Neto, on the morning of Wednesday the 15th, as "political." According to him, there is a "deliberate orientation" in the plea bargains of Operation Lava Jato aimed at harming the PT.

"In my opinion, this is a political arrest. He did not raise any funds outside of what is stipulated by Brazilian law. That is our position. We trust what has been done. We are extremely suspicious that there is a deliberate bias in these plea bargains to harm the PT. We will defend ourselves," he stated.

The congressman informed that there will be an emergency meeting of the PT leadership this afternoon, due to Vaccari's arrest, at the party headquarters in São Paulo. However, he stressed that any decision by the party on the matter will only be made at the national directorate meeting, which was already scheduled for this Thursday, the 16th.

"I am still awaiting the decision of the Executive Board, which will meet tomorrow, and we will issue a public statement regarding our formal position," he said.
