Palocci joins Petrobras' board of directors.

The name of the Chief of Staff was approved in a general assembly today.

The Chief of Staff, Antonio Palocci, was elected the newest member of Petrobras' board of directors. The appointment was approved today at the state-owned company's ordinary general meeting. The company is expected to release a statement to the market later today officially confirming the choice.

Palocci replaces Silas Rondeau, former Minister of Mines and Energy, who held the position as a representative of the controlling shareholder. Rondeau had held the post since April 2006. His replacement had been expected for years, as he no longer held any government position and his name had been involved in scandals still under investigation.

The assembly also decided to retain all eight board members, including the Finance Minister, Guido Mantega, who chairs the board, the president of the state-owned company, José Sergio Gabrielli, and the executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Márcio Zimmermann.
