247 - General Edson Leal Pujol, who took office this Friday, the 11th, as commander of the Army, was yet another military officer in Jair Bolsonaro's government to defend the idea that the pension reform should not affect the military.

"Our intention, if you ask me, is that we should not modify our system, in my opinion as commander of the Army. But we military personnel are disciplined and obey the laws and the Constitution. If there is a decision by the State and Brazilian society regarding changes, we will comply," stated the new commander after the ceremony in which he assumed office.

The commander emphasized that, according to the Constitution, the armed forces were not part of the social security system, but stated that the military was "willing to collaborate with society."

Before the Army commander, the Minister of Defense, General Fernando Azevedo e Silva, and Vice President Hamilton Mourão himself had already spoken out against the pension reform for the military.
