247 – The governor of the Federal District, Agnelo Queiroz (PT), went on the offensive before the Cachoeira CPI on Wednesday the 13th, and took a position in contrast to that of the governor of Goiás, Marconi Perillo (PSDB), who testified the day before. "I offer the CPI the lifting of all my confidentiality," said Agnelo, referring to banking, tax, telephone, email, and SMS records. Perillo did not make the same offer to the CPI, but the lifting of his confidentiality will be voted on soon by the Commission.

"There was no favoritism towards Delta or Carlinhos Cachoeira in the Federal District," the governor stated. "I did not make any appointments based on Cachoeira's recommendations." In Goiás, the state administration has executives who maintain family and friendship ties with the racketeer.

Unlike Perillo, Agnelo did not use his opening statement at the CPI session to disclose data about his administration. He chose to get straight to the point. "I am here to reestablish the truth," said Agnelo. "The criminal organization investigated here tried to overthrow my legitimately elected government," he maintained. The governor, on two occasions, cited wiretaps by the Federal Police about the informant Adalberto Araújo, known as Dadá, and the businessman Fernando Cavendish, owner of Delta Construção. "We didn't even appoint a street sweeper," was Dadá's phrase quoted by Agnelo. "There, we only get beaten up," said the governor, referring to Cavendish's friend.

While, the previous day, Perillo reported that during a previous term he had created legislation in Goiás favorable to the operation of slot machines, then managed by the company Gerplan, owned by Carlinhos Cachoeira, this Wednesday Agnelo registered a different position. "There was no favoritism towards gambling in the Federal District," he stated. "Personally, I am against the legalization of gambling. There are many harmful side effects," he added.

Agnelo also recalled that Senator Demóstenes Torres had filed an impeachment request against him last year. Perillo reiterated that Demóstenes was part of his political group. "He was our candidate for mayor of Goiânia," said the governor of Goiás. Agnelo took a different approach: "Now I understand why Demóstenes asked for my impeachment," he said, in a veiled reference to the connections between the senator and the illegal gambling operator Cachoeira.

Below is a previous news item from 247:

247 - The governor of the Federal District, Agnelo Queiroz, began his testimony to the Cachoeira CPI at 10:38 am with an aggressive stance. "Can anyone here name a single person I had recommended for the government at the request of Mr. Carlos Cachoeira?", he asked. And then he quoted a passage from a wiretap by the spy Idalberto Mathias, aka Dadá: "We couldn't even appoint a street sweeper," the governor repeated.

In the opening minutes of his testimony, the governor stated that on the twenty-sixth day of his administration he requested an audit of several areas of the administration, including the Delta Engenharia contract for garbage collection in the Federal District. He also claimed that his government has been persecuted by organized crime. "The organization under investigation here plotted my downfall," he said.

Citing conversations from Federal Police operations, in which members of Cachoeira's group criticize the government of the Federal District, Agnelo defends that he did not allow crime to take root in his government. And he challenged those present to cite any case of infiltration by the gambling boss's organization in the State. "What business [this organization] managed to do here?", he asked.

Like the governor of Goiás, Marconi Perillo, in his testimony to the CPI this Tuesday, Agnelo Queiroz is publicizing figures from his government, citing noteworthy actions such as the hiring of civil servants in the health sector, the installation of hospitals, and, especially, the creation of the DF Transparency Secretariat, through which, according to him, 14 audits were carried out. The governor also spoke about the situation the government was in when he took office a year and a half ago. "Everyone remembers the number of mosquitoes there were because of the garbage, which wasn't being collected."

Causing a stir in the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), the governor offered to make his bank, tax, and telephone records available to the parliamentarians at the end of his initial testimony. "Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear," he said. Even before finishing his statement, the witness was applauded in the session.
