BRASILIA (Reuters) - President Jair Bolsonaro has designated Vice President Hamilton Mourão to attend an emergency meeting of the Lima Group next Monday in Bogotá to discuss the situation in Venezuela, amid Nicolás Maduro's decision to close the border with Brazil and his consideration of doing the same with Colombia.

According to the Vice-President's press office, Mourão will travel on Sunday night and return to Brazil on Monday, immediately after the meeting.

The Brazilian government decided to increase its level of participation in the meeting—normally led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs—after the American government decided to also send its Vice President, Mike Pence, and due to the worsening of the crisis.

By late afternoon on Thursday, the Brazilian government had not yet commented on Maduro's decision to close the border starting Thursday night. The entry of humanitarian aid collected by the self-declared interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, is scheduled for Saturday, the 23rd.
