Moreira Franco undermines Meirelles' candidacy.

"People think they can repeat Fernando Henrique's success. It's not like that. FHC had a party, an electoral tradition, he wasn't a neophyte," said Moreira Franco, advisor to interim president Michel Temer, commenting on Henrique Meirelles' possible presidential candidacy in 2018; "He [FHC] also had friends in the PMDB and played a relevant role in the Diretas Já movement and in the election of Tancredo Neves. People need to remain calm."

247 - One of interim president Michel Temer's main advisors, Moreira Franco, has begun the process of undermining Henrique Meirelles' presidential candidacy – which has been bothering Temer's allies, especially in the PSDB party.

"People think they can repeat Fernando Henrique [who gained popularity as Finance Minister during the Real Plan]. That's not how it works. FHC had a party, an electoral tradition, he wasn't a neophyte," Moreira said in an interview with journalist Daniela Lima.

"He also had friends in the PMDB and played a significant role in the Diretas Já movement and in the election of Tancredo Neves. People need to remain calm."

In the interview, Moreira also acknowledged that Temer lacks legitimacy, but stated that overcoming the economic crisis (which is a byproduct of the 2016 coup) could restore his credibility with the population.
