Meirelles could be Alckmin's running mate.
The political coordinator of former governor Geraldo Alckmin's (PSDB) presidential campaign, also a former governor, Marconi Perillo, suggested, at an event aimed at investors, the name of former minister Henrique Meirelles to be the vice-presidential candidate on the ticket headed by the PSDB candidate; in the latest Ibope/CNI poll, released last week, Alckmin has 6% of the voting intentions, while Meirelles has only 1%.
247 - The political coordinator of former governor Geraldo Alckmin's (PSDB) presidential campaign, also a former governor, Marconi Perillo, suggested, at an event aimed at investors, the name of former minister Henrique Meirelles to be the vice-presidential candidate on the ticket headed by the PSDB candidate.
In the latest Ibope poll, commissioned by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and released last week, Alckmin has 6% of voting intentions, while Meirelles has only 1%.
"The moment now is for a democratic leader like Alckmin, plus political leaders and a significant market representative with political experience and expertise, such as Henrique Meirelles," Perillo reportedly said at the event held by XP Investimentos this Monday (2).
Despite Perillo's defense, some within the PSDB believe that a closer relationship with the MDB would further harm the PSDB campaign, given Temer's low popularity ratings, with 79% of Brazilians rejecting his government.
"This is the moment to recall the example of 2002, when Lula's PT sought out businessman and entrepreneur José Alencar to calm market anxieties and steer a safe flight towards a development path that lasted until 2010," Perillo emphasized.
