Doctors say Lula is in good health.

The use of a cane is believed to be related to muscle weakness, common in cases of intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, according to sources close to the former president.

247 – Former President Lula, who appeared yesterday walking with the aid of a cane during a seminar organized by BNDES in Rio de Janeiro, is in good health. Doctors treating Lula told Globo that there has been no change in relation to the cancer — whose tumor has been eliminated according to the latest clinical reports — and that there is no metastasis.

"All chemotherapy and radiotherapy cause a very significant weakening of the muscles. The person doesn't feel firmness in their legs. That's why Lula wanted to use the cane for support. The expectation is that he will remain like this (weakened) for another two months," said one of the sources close to the former president.

Lula also complained yesterday about the condition of his throat. "It's been seven months since I last spoke," he said at the seminar. "I'm going to read as quickly as possible so my throat will allow me to finish."
