Lula has a busy schedule in Malaysia — and no confirmation of a meeting with Trump
The President will have a busy day on Sunday (26), when, according to authorities, the bilateral meeting with Trump is also planned.
247 - The Planalto Palace released on Saturday night (25) the official agenda of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for Sunday (26), during his trip to Asia. Despite statements by Lula himself and US authorities about the possibility of a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump, the meeting does not appear on the official schedule.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had confirmed the meeting would take place. Lula himself also mentioned the possibility of the meeting several times, saying that he intends to discuss topics ranging from trade tariffs to the situation in Venezuela during his visit to Malaysia.
According to the agenda, the president will participate early in the opening session of the 47th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), an event that will include the signing of Timor-Leste's declaration of accession to the bloc.
Next, at 8:30 AM (time zone: +11h), Lula will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong. Later in the morning, a meeting is scheduled with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh.
At 12:00 PM, the Brazilian president will participate in the ASEAN Business Summit, followed by the Brazil-Malaysia business meeting, scheduled for 3:15 PM.
In the early evening, at 19:30 pm, Lula's last official engagement will be a dinner hosted by the President of the European Council, António Costa, which will also be attended by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.
Despite expectations and previous announcements, there is still no confirmation on the official agenda regarding the meeting between Lula and Trump in Kuala Lumpur.
