247 - Tuesday was marked by two events that summarized the country's situation: even imprisoned in Curitiba, Brazil's most prominent political leader gave a masterclass in a televised deposition for the Judiciary. Lula cheered the country and sparked an impressive wave of solidarity and hope. Meanwhile, on the plush carpets of Brasília, the right wing staged a fiasco of enormous proportions, attempting to launch a manifesto to unite them precisely to confront Lula's imprisonment.
"Even though he's in prison, he is the great hope of the Brazilian people," Leonardo Attuch stated on the program. Good Morning 247 (here) this Wednesday morning (6). During the program, dozens of hundreds of messages that arrived from Brazil and abroad were read, expressing contentment at the opportunity to see Lula live for the first time since his imprisonment on April 7. Throughout yesterday afternoon/evening and this morning there were thousands and thousands of expressions of affection and support for Lula on social media.
At the same time that Lula was testifying, in a sparsely attended event, without representatives from the main parties that a right-wing group led by Fernando Henrique Cardoso intended to attract, allies of the PSDB's pre-candidate for the Presidency, Geraldo Alckmin, launched a manifesto that aimed to unite the right for the elections. It was a large-scale fiasco. Only 19 federal deputies attended, 15 of them from the PSDB. The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, pre-candidate for the DEM party, torpedoed the initiative, considering it a maneuver by the PSDB to obtain support for Geraldo Alckmin's minor candidacy.here).
Watching Lula's testimony, boycotted by all the mass media linked to the coup, was like reviving the memory of a happier time in Brazil, commented columnist Paulo Moreira Leite (PML) in good night 247 from yesterday (here"It's worth watching this testimony; those who haven't seen it can't miss it," said PML – at the end, you can watch the full testimony of Lula, broadcast live on TV 247. PML continued: "We were able to remember what it's like to live in a country with a president like Lula; you can see the quality of this public figure. Even when he's sitting giving testimony in the unpleasant position of someone who has to answer witnesses, it's possible to see the quality of this man. The clarity of his answers, the spirit of someone who is at ease, who communicates with Brazilians." Paulo Moreira Leire added: "For me, it's something so restful; it's like waking up from a nightmare that is Temer's Brazil, an incommunicable, hidden president."
Nostalgia for the Lula era. That was the widespread feeling among those who watched the testimony and heard the former president recount the world scenario and the Brazilian context a few years ago. "Lula kept talking about other times in Brazil, when it was an admired country," said PML. "We revived in our memories how Brazil used to be better; Lula's speech is the return of a dream, a statesman who knows what he's doing. It was politically very relevant and showed the importance of Lula remaining a candidate. He has a legitimacy that few Brazilian public figures have, and he's still there. Even imprisoned, he's not hiding; he's leading his people."
Leonardo Attuch highlighted Lula's empathy and the relevance of his testimony: "Today Lula is close to 40% in the polls. If the open TV channels, which censor him in every way, had broadcast only yesterday's testimony, of low technical quality, with poor image and sound, what would have happened in the polls? It was a real pocket show by Lula to Judge Marcelo Bretas. He would have jumped to 50% or even more in the next moment. Because the video showed the difference between a Brazil that thinks big and a Brazil that thinks small, between a country standing tall and a country on its knees."
