Lula: Never before in the history of Brazil has a September 7th been used for an election campaign.

Former President Lula denounced the crime committed by Jair Bolsonaro on the bicentennial of Independence.

Sputnik - In a statement regarding the bicentennial of independence, Lula says that Bolsonaro, "instead of discussing the country's problems, is trying to talk about the election campaign."

Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) main opponent in the presidential elections, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), spoke on Wednesday night (7) about the bicentennial of Brazil's independence.

In a video posted on his official Twitter account, Lula highlighted that he had the opportunity to participate in two September 7th holidays during election campaigns, one in 2006 and another in 2010, and stated that "at no point did we use Independence Day for election campaigning."

"And the president, instead of discussing Brazil's problems, trying to tell the Brazilian people how he's going to solve the problems of education, health, unemployment, and the stagnation of the minimum wage, he tries to talk about political campaigning and tries to attack me," said Lula.

In a speech to supporters on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Bolsonaro attacked Lula, stated that he is not a thief, and said that his government has been corruption-free for three and a half years, ignoring scandals such as the Ministry of Education scandal, the Secret Budget scandal, and more recently the purchase of dozens of properties with cash by his family.

In his statement, Lula mentioned the case involving the purchase of properties, and said that Bolsonaro should "be telling the people how the family managed to gather R$ 26 million in cash to buy 51 properties."

Lula and Bolsonaro polarize voting intentions in these elections, with percentages much higher than those of the other candidates. In the most recent Ipec survey, released last Monday (5), Lula appeared in the lead, with 44% of voting intentions, against 31% registered by Bolsonaro. In third place was Ciro Gomes (PDT), with 8% of voting intentions, followed by Simone Tebet (MDB), with 4%.
