247 - At least initially, President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) does not intend to split the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, according to what Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) heard from the PT leader himself. informs The Estadão newspaper.

One of Lula's campaign promises was to divide the ministry into two.: a Ministry of Justice and an independent ministry for Public Security. However, allies of the president-elect have been trying to convince him otherwise, because, according to them, this would weaken the current Ministry of Justice.

Aziz's information, however, is that the decision not to split the Ministry of Justice and Public Security is for a "first moment," meaning that such a measure could still occur during the Workers' Party member's term. This information aligns with what members of the transition team discussing the issue are saying, who also affirm that the idea has not been discarded so far.

Senator-elect Flávio Dino (PSB-MA), the favorite to assume the ministry, also argues that public security should remain under the purview of the Ministry of Justice.
