247 - The president of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana, expressed optimism regarding the negotiations between Brazil and the United States, highlighting that there is "mutual interest" and a favorable political climate for a new meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

“I am quite optimistic about this, because those who bet against Brazil, those who bet that President Trump would, based on unfounded reasons and misinformation, mistreat Brazil or President Lula's government, were wrong,” the leader stated in an interview with [publication name]. UOL News.

Possible meeting still in 2025

According to Viana, the meeting between the two presidents could take place later this year and should continue the work of the recently created bilateral working group. “President Lula made it clear to him, creating, as has been said, a chemistry between the two. There is interest, and very likely we will have a meeting between Lula and Trump soon, which will also give effect to the working group formed, which should meet in the next ten days,” he highlighted. The meeting, according to the president of ApexBrasil, would represent an important step in resuming economic dialogue between the two largest economies on the continent.

A balanced trade agreement is a priority.

Viana explained that the ongoing negotiations seek to reduce tariffs considered excessive on Brazilian exports and promote fairer trade. “First, there’s a political decision to seek an agreement. Second, a good agreement is made with a criterion where both sides… I always say a phrase I learned: in a good agreement, both sides are moderately dissatisfied. That’s how an agreement is reached, because if one side wins and the other loses, it doesn’t work,” he stated.

He emphasized that technical discussions should take place in the coming days, focusing on measures that stimulate bilateral trade and strengthen Brazil's image as a strategic partner of the United States.
