247 - Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone on Monday morning and, according to the Russian government, the two leaders discussed, among other things, the "coming to power of the new American government," referring to Donald Trump's return to the presidency of the United States. However, the statement released by the Planalto Palace did not mention this topic, highlighting only issues related to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the official Russian statement, Lula and Putin shared views on the global situation. The Brazilian government, in turn, reported that the Brazilian president expressed concern about the international scenario and reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to promoting peace. "Lula expressed concern about the international scenario and reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to promoting peace," the statement said.

Furthermore, Vladimir Putin thanked Brazil for its role in the Friends of Peace Group, an initiative launched jointly with China at the UN last September to seek a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The conversation between the two occurred just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Brazil during the World Economic Forum in Davos, stating that the country had "missed the opportunity" to act as a mediator in the conflict.

Another point discussed was the invitation for Lula to attend the event in Moscow on May 9th, during the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. The Brazilian president indicated his intention to participate in the event, reinforcing Brazil's diplomatic role in global events.

The agreement highlights Brazil's ongoing effort to balance its international relations amidst a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, with an emphasis on promoting peace and mediating conflicts.
