Lula defends fair taxation and 'distribution' of wealth.
The president's statement comes amid tensions between the Executive branch and the National Congress.
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended on Monday (30) the transformation of Brazil into a truly "just" country. In this process, according to the president, it is necessary to tax society in a 'fair' way and 'share' the privileges of the super-rich with the rest of the population.
"We want this country to become a just country. It begins to be just through taxation and then continues to be just through distribution. That's why we're making income tax up to R$ 5 exempt, and those who consume up to 80 kWh don't pay for electricity. That's why we're going to make gas cheaper in people's homes," the president stated during an official event in Brasília.
The statement comes amid tensions between the Executive and the National Congress after the Legislature overturned President Lula's decree that increased the Tax on Financial Operations (IOF). Meanwhile, the federal government persists in President Lula's determination to cut privileges for the super-rich.
