Lula: 'So far, everyone who stole has a degree'

At the 9th National Congress of Metalworkers of the CUT in Guarulhos (SP), former president Lula defended the PT and said that the party created the instruments for investigating corruption; "Until now, everyone who stole has a diploma," he stated; regarding private donations, he retorted: "Did the money from the PSDB come from a church fair? It's legal for businessmen to donate money here and anywhere in the world"; regarding the outsourcing bill, Lula asked President Dilma to intervene so that it is not approved: "It's a matter of honor for the Brazilian working class."

247 - Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended the Workers' Party (PT) and the Dilma Rousseff government against attacks from the opposition in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 9th National Congress of Metalworkers of the CUT (Unified Workers' Central) in the municipality of Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo.

“They tried to do to me exactly what they are doing to Dilma. You remember that for ten years there has been a premeditated policy of criminalizing the PT. What upsets me is that they will never acknowledge that the PT created the investigative tools in this country... Until now, everyone who stole has a diploma,” he said on Tuesday night.

He also defended the party's legal donations: “Who takes money from poor people to campaign? Let's investigate properly. Or did the PSDB's money come from a street fair? Did you ever see a PSDB member taking money from a street fair vendor selling pastries? It's legal for businessmen to donate money here and anywhere in the world. So, if someone from the PT or any political party took illegal money, they should be punished,” he argued.

He urged union leaders to defend the government: "At this moment when it's easier to go into the factory bathroom and speak ill of the government, we cannot allow the infamy, the wickedness, and the bad faith of some people to destroy the political project that we began to build in the country," he stated.

Regarding Bill 4330, Lula asked Dilma to intervene to prevent the approval of the regulation of outsourcing in the country.
"It's a matter of honor for the Brazilian working class. The CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws) was an achievement of Brazilian society. That's why many people didn't like Getúlio," he recalled.
