247 – Federal deputy and former minister Luiz Sérgio (PT-RJ) highlighted, at the beginning of the Cachoeira CPI's work, the need to investigate the relationship between the country's most famous illegal gambling operator and the press. When mentioning the information from the investigations in question, the deputy referred to "Operation Veja".
When questioned by his colleagues, Luiz Sérgio said he was referring to Operation Vegas, and that he had made a mistake in mixing up the names, due to the “connections between Cachoeira's organization and media outlets.” Taking the opportunity, the congressman defended the CPI's investigation in this area as well.
The congressman also advocated for summoning the Attorney General of the Republic, Roberto Gurgel, to provide clarifications about his own actions. "We can't start by restricting ourselves," he said.
