Leréia warns that she will resign if the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) is actually established.
A member of parliament from the PSDB party appears in at least 70 wiretapped phone calls from the Federal Police's Operation Monte Carlo, which led to the arrest of illegal gambling operator Carlinhos Cachoeira.
247 – Senator Demóstenes Torres has been sharing the spotlight in the Carlinhos Cachoeira case with Congressman Carlos Alberto Leréia (PSDB-GO). After appearing in at least 70 wiretapped phone calls from the Federal Police's Operation Monte Carlo, which led to the arrest of the racketeer, Leréia has been pressured to resign. According to journalist Lauro Jardim, from the Radar Online blog, if it depends on the PSDB leadership, Congressman Carlos Alberto Leréia from Goiás (another one involved in the Carlinhos Cachoeira wiretaps) can start packing his bags to follow the same path as Demóstenes Torres in the DEM party.
The congressman seems to have understood the message and warned his colleagues, in a confidential tone, that, with no other option, he will have to resign from his mandate if the joint parliamentary commission of inquiry is actually established.
According to Claudio Humberto, the PSDB expects the congressman to resign from his mandate. He is also subject to expulsion proceedings. "Information about favors the illegal gambling operator gave to Leréia is of such a low level that it led the PSDB leadership to await his resignation."
