Meirelles's launch is bad news for Alckmin.

Journalist Kennedy Alencar states on his blog that the launch of Henrique Meirelles as the sole pre-candidate for the MDB party is bad news for former governor Geraldo Alckmin; according to Kennedy, "President Michel Temer is putting a competitor in the center-right and right-wing field."

247 - Journalist Kennedy Alencar states on his blog that the The launch of Henrique Meirelles as the sole pre-candidate for the MDB party is bad news for former governor Geraldo Alckmin. According to Kennedy, "President Michel Temer is putting a competitor in the center-right and right-wing field."

The journalist also states that Temer made a self-protective move: "by keeping Meirelles in the spotlight, Temer also gets out of the line of fire."

"Meirelles still has to come to an understanding with the PMDB by August 15th. If it works out, great. If he doesn't rise in the polls, he could be passed over in favor of an alliance with another candidate for the Presidency."
