Medical board of the Chamber says Genoino's condition is not serious.
"There is no permanent disability at the moment, but there are circumstances that pose risks to his work activity," said cardiologist Luciano Janussi Vacanti, a member of the medical board that examined the congressman; the board's recommendation is that the congressman, who is serving his sentence under house arrest after being convicted in Criminal Action 470, remain on leave for another 90 days; according to Vacanti, José Genoino's condition has worsened since the examination by the Chamber's medical examiners in September due to the tensions of recent days, which have increased his blood pressure.
Tiago Miranda / Chamber Agency - The director of the Chamber's Medical Department, Jezreel Avelino da Silva, said a short while ago that the congressman on leave, José Genoino (PT-SP), does not suffer from serious heart disease.
"There is no permanent disability at the moment, but there are circumstances that pose risks to his work activity," said cardiologist Luciano Janussi Vacanti, a member of the medical board that examined the congressman. Genoino was sentenced to prison under a semi-open regime in the Mensalão corruption scandal.
The board recommended that the deputy remain on leave for another 90 days, starting from the examinations carried out on Monday (25), and then be examined again. José Genoino submitted his request for disability retirement to the Chamber last September.
According to Vacanti, Genoino's condition has worsened since the examination by the Chamber's experts in September due to the tensions of the last few days, which have increased his pressure.
Doctors held a press conference to present the results of the tests performed on the congressman. They stated that the patient's health could improve or worsen within two years.
Disease
On July 24th, Genoino was diagnosed with an aortic dissection (when one or more of the three layers of the artery rupture, causing internal bleeding) at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo.
At the hospital, he suffered a mild cerebral ischemia – an obstruction of blood circulation in the brain – and was discharged on August 19. Genoino is on medical leave from the Chamber until September 19.
UnB report
On Tuesday (26), a report from five cardiologists at the University of Brasília (UnB), at the request of the Supreme Federal Court, stated that the deputy's heart disease "is not characterized as serious", but recommends that the medications be "strictly maintained for as long as the anticoagulant treatment lasts".
