Jaques Wagner: 'There is no chance of Gabrielli taking over as Chief of Staff'
During the opening of the 2011 Book Biennial in Salvador, the governor of Bahia said that, probably, Undersecretary Carlos Melo will remain in Eva Chiavon's position in the Bahia Civil House.
Rebeca Bastos and Victor Longo_Bahia 247 - The governor of Bahia, Jaques Wagner, ruled out the possibility of José Sérgio Gabrielli, president of Petrobras and pre-candidate to succeed Wagner himself, taking over the Civil House of the State. "There is no chance," he guaranteed, during the opening of the Book Biennial, on the morning of this Friday (28), in Salvador.
According to Wagner, interim secretary Carlos Melo, who was previously the undersecretary of the department, is expected to assume the position permanently. The Civil House coordinates all economic and social programs of the Bahia government, such as the "Todos pela Alfabetização" (Topa) program, which earned Wagner an award this week in Brasília for teaching 1 million people to read and write.
State Plan for Books and Reading
During the opening of the Biennial, the governor launched the Bahia State Book and Reading Plan. Developed in partnership by the state secretariats of Education and Culture, through the Pedro Calmon Foundation, the plan will be launched with two major actions already defined - training four thousand reading agents, among high school students from the state public school system, and another 572 young people, with completed high school education, aged between 18 and 29 years.
The plan also aims to establish permanent strategies for planning, support, coordination, and reference for the implementation of actions aimed at promoting reading. The initiative is the result of a year of discussions between teachers, municipal and state managers, and representatives of the book production chain.
