Nominated by Bolsonaro, Mendonça admits he 'faces a dilemma' in judging Bolsonaro supporters accused of the coup-mongering attacks of January 8th.
Minister André Mendonça says there is a difference between those camped out at Army headquarters and vandals caught red-handed in coup-mongering attacks on the headquarters of the three branches of government.
247 - Minister André Mendonça, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), stated this Monday (24), during a lecture at the Institute of Lawyers of São Paulo (IASP), that he is in a dilemma to distinguish whether the Bolsonaro supporters arrested in front of the Army Command, the day after the coup acts of January 8, should be considered defendants.
According to Mendonça, there is a difference between vandals caught in the act and those who are camped out.
"He explained that it is important to distinguish the situation of this previous group from the 50 individuals arrested in the act during the attacks on the three branches of government on the same day," highlights a report from... newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.
Mendonça was nominated to the Supreme Court by former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). According to the report, Mendonça's statement, given his nomination to the Court by Jair Bolsonaro, raises expectations about his stance on this crime against democracy.
