247 - The Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann, declared this Friday (22) that all members of the Workers' Party (PT) who hold positions in the federal government should run for office in the 2026 elections.

"I advocate that everyone who can be a candidate should be a candidate. This is a very important election. All those who have already voted and held elected office and are in government, I advocate that they resign and run for office," the minister said in an interview with CNN Brazil, according to the newspaper. The State of S. Paul

"I advocate that everyone who can be a candidate should be a candidate. This is a very important election. I advocate that everyone who has already voted and held elected office and is in government should resign and run for office," he emphasized.

According to Gleisi, this guidance includes her own name and that of the Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, who is frequently mentioned as a possible candidate for governor of São Paulo or for the Senate representing the state. Although Haddad has avoided confirming this possibility, pressure is growing within the PT (Workers' Party) for him to run and strengthen the party and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the country's largest electoral college.

Haddad's name has been seen as a key element in expanding the PT's presence in São Paulo, a traditional electoral stronghold of the party's adversaries. "Haddad's name is very strong in São Paulo and, certainly, as a candidate for governor, he would be a strong platform for Lula. And he is also a viable candidate for the Senate. The party has been having this discussion," he stated.
