General Heleno denies that the military is considering a coup or intervention.

"The military will not stage a coup. That doesn't even cross the minds of our generation, which was formed by the generation that lived through all those events, like being against the government, carrying out a counter-revolution in 1964," said the Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), General Augusto Heleno.

247 - The Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI), General Augusto Heleno, said that the military will not support coup attempts, military intervention, or the establishment of a dictatorship in Brazil.

“The military will not stage a coup. That doesn’t cross the minds of our generation, which was formed by that generation that lived through all those events, like being against the government, carrying out a counter-revolution in 1964,” Heleno said this Thursday (21) in a live broadcast on the Personalidades em Foco website.

According to Heleno, "dictatorship and interventions are not on anyone's mind; these are provocations made by some individuals who lack the courage to state their ideologies and who provoke the military to see if we will react."

The statements by the GSI minister came in the wake of two notes issued by the Ministry of Defense reaffirming that the Armed Forces are committed to the Constitution. The notes were released after Jair Bolsonaro participated in events promoted by supporters who called for military intervention, as well as the closure of Congress and the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

During the broadcast, Heleno also criticized the press. "When it comes to presenting the facts, you can tell. It's a total contamination of this part of the press. It can only be to overthrow the President of the Republic. There's no other explanation," he said.
