'PMDB's G8' in the Chamber defends handing over positions.
Led by Congressman Eduardo Cunha, members of the PT's main ally say they are dissatisfied "with the party's participation in the government."
After the "PMDB G8" in the Senate – a group of independent senators who challenged the leadership of Renan Calheiros (AL) and the relationship with the government – now comes the G8 in the Chamber of Deputies, advocating that the party return all the positions it holds to President Dilma Rousseff. Led by Deputy Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), seven PMDB deputies from Rio signed a manifesto today reaffirming their support for the leader of the caucus, Henrique Eduardo Alves (RN), and President Dilma, but "expressing their dissatisfaction with the party's participation in the government."
"We're not fighting with anyone or asking for anything. On the contrary, the idea is to give everything away. If the PMDB is going to keep the tip, it's better to leave it for the waiter," said Cunha, emphasizing that the movement is political. According to him, the manifesto only includes the party's Rio de Janeiro caucus, but it could be larger because the discontent with the party's participation in the government is more widespread.
The first of the group's six manifesto items is precisely the one that supports Alves and reaffirms their "commitment" to his candidacy for president of the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, within the agreement to alternate in the position with the PT of the current president Marco Maia (RS). Next comes support for President Dilma's government and the observation that "it would be best if we were not occupying public office, since the size of the party is not adequately represented."
In the fourth point, the group expresses "discomfort with the allegations involving party members, in situations where the reported events predate the PMDB administration, but are causing strain on all of us." The text also emphasizes that "support for the government does not mean failing to investigate any existing allegations, whether through traditional means or a Parliamentary Inquiry Commission, if that is the understanding of each parliamentarian."
The PMDB deputies from Rio also say they would like to discuss "issues relevant to society, such as the extension of the Union Revenue Detachment (DRU), which will imply the loss of the possibility of increasing spending on health and education, which, in our view, should be a priority for our party."
In addition to Cunha, the list of signatories of the manifesto includes deputies Adrian Musse, Alexandre Santos, Edson Ezequiel, Fernando Jordão, Nelson Bornier, Solange Almeida, and Washington Reis.
