"It was an attempted coup. I don't know if Bolsonaro ordered it, but he is to blame," says Lula.

"He spent four years inciting hatred among the people, lying to Brazilian society," the president stated.

247 - President Lula (PT) once again condemned this Wednesday (18), during a meeting with leaders of trade union centers in Brasília, the coup-like acts against the headquarters of the Three Powers on January 8th. According to the president, the terrorist attacks were carried out by "prepared people". Lula pointed to Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as the guilty party in the episode.

“They weren’t satisfied. After our wonderful inauguration, after a Black paper collector placed the sash around my neck, they waited a week and tried to stage a coup. What happened here was an attempted coup, an attempted coup with prepared people. I don’t know if the former president ordered it, but what I do know is that he is guilty, because he spent four years inciting hatred among the people, lying to Brazilian society and inciting the idea that the people had to be armed to guarantee democracy.”

Lula concluded by praising democracy. “We guarantee it with culture, with books, with debate, with education, with food, with jobs. It's no use talking about democracy to the people if they say 'I want to know who's going to give me food.' The people don't like to live off handouts, the people like to live off their own labor. And that's what the State has to be concerned with doing,” he concluded.
