FHC: The population would not accept Lula's return.
Former PSDB president FHC says the message from the streets was also for his successor, referring to Sunday's protests, and affirms that the population will not accept Lula back in 2018: 'One cannot escape historical responsibility. He summoned his armies, disappeared, and now Dilma is to blame for everything?'; “It is not credible that what happened at Petrobras was unknown to whoever was in power, whether Lula or Dilma. There were many years with directors supported by the parties. The king is naked and everyone is pretending to be dressed”; according to him, the solution is to acknowledge the mistake; a recent Datafolha poll showed Lula as the most admired former president by Brazilians; FHC came in last.
247 – One day after the protests sparked across Brazil against the Dilma Rousseff government, former president FHC (Fernando Henrique Cardoso) calls on his successor to take responsibility. According to him, the message from the streets also applies to him, and he affirms that the population will not accept Lula back in 2018.
According to FHC, the solution is to acknowledge the mistake: “How many times haven’t I said that I was wrong for not adjusting the exchange rate before 1998? You can’t escape historical responsibility. This game of blind man’s bluff continues. President Lula made an absolutely inappropriate statement, asking the armies to take to the streets. And then he remains silent? Doesn’t he feel responsible if tempers flare later? He disappeared and now only Dilma is to blame?”, he said in an interview with Valor.
"It's not credible that what happened at Petrobras was unknown to those in power, whether Lula or Dilma. For many years, directors were supported by political parties. The emperor has no clothes, and everyone is still pretending to be dressed," he stated.
Regarding the fiscal adjustment, the PSDB member assures that the party should not oppose the package, but says he is exempt from responsibility; 'The opposition will not put its hand in the fire to remove the chestnuts' (read closest).
