Agency Brazil Former Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso (FHC) recently defended the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry (CPI) to investigate allegations of involvement between politicians and the businessman from Goiás, Carlos Augusto Ramos, known as Carlinhos Cachoeira, suspected of leading a network exploiting illegal gambling. FHC said that the country is "tired" of corruption and that the creation of the CPI will be a show of strength from the National Congress.

"Congress, at certain times, has to investigate acts of corruption. And I think this is the moment when it has to do so," said the former president after a ceremony to launch a documentary that describes his political career, produced by TV Câmara.

"I think [the creation of the CPI] is good. The country needs to calmly address these issues at this moment. We are tired of seeing the level of corruption that exists. And I'm not criticizing A, B, or C because, unfortunately, it affects almost everyone, not just individuals, but also political parties," argued FHC. "I think the country is tired of corruption, and this is the moment for Congress to grow, to create a CPI that gets to the root of the issues, that isn't just about making baseless accusations."
