FHC takes a jab at Lula: "I don't know how to bite shins"
Fernando Henrique Cardoso warned that he would not campaign for José Serra, a candidate from the PSDB party, as he did not consider the role appropriate for a former president; however, in the 2010 election, he asked for votes for Senator Aloysio Nunes.
247 - After former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he would do everything to see his candidate, Fernando Haddad, elected in São Paulo (including biting shins), former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso warned that he would not campaign for Haddad's main rival, José Serra, because he did not consider the role appropriate for a former president. The jab at Lula came during the National Meeting of the Construction Industry in Belo Horizonte: "I don't know how to bite shins." "I don't think it's appropriate for a human being," he added.
"I have never participated in any campaign since I left the Presidency of the Republic," said FHC, seemingly forgetting the votes he solicited for Senator Aloysio Nunes (PSDB-SP) in the last election. "When I was president, I didn't participate in the campaign either. I said who I was going to vote for, but I didn't participate because I thought it was inappropriate," added the former president.
Purebred plate
FHC also said that a possible decision by the PSDB to run a "purebred" ticket in the São Paulo mayoral race increases the possibility of victory in the elections, but the party must consider whether it will be able to govern in isolation. "Is it possible to govern in isolation? I remember when I ran for president, I could have potentially won alone. Because of the Real Plan and all that... I didn't want that. In a democracy, you don't govern without support," he assessed, praising Secretary Andrea Matarazzo, one of the names considered for Serra's running mate.
