"I am outraged"

Rio de Janeiro Governor Sérgio Cabral increases pressure on the day of the vote on the royalties bill that harms the state.

247 - The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sérgio Cabral, increased his criticism this morning regarding the possibility of changing the oil royalties law. "What the Senate wants to vote on is not a project at all. It's a caricature," said Cabral. "I'm not worried, I'm outraged. What they want is to override an existing law, the result of a broad agreement. There is no basis for this," the governor added.

Cabral even compared Rio's situation to that of the state of Amazonas, where the Free Trade Zone is located. “We have to be generous. I'm happy when the Free Trade Zone receives a large project. I can't compete with the tax incentives, but this is good because it promotes decentralized growth.”

The governor also criticized the potential change in legislation from a technical standpoint. “The proposed distribution of royalties doesn't even respect the IBGE's criteria.” Cabral placed the responsibility for maintaining the current legislation regarding royalties on President Dilma Rousseff. “As Chief of Staff, President Dilma participated with me in making this agreement. I hope she respects what we did together, since her government is backed by President Lula, who provided the current legislation, which is fair.”
