In a letter to Temer, Renan says he will not nominate anyone for the government.

The president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), sent a letter this Tuesday (5) to the Vice-President of the Republic, Michel Temer, in response to the note that Temer released last week in which he reprimanded Renan for public criticism of President Dilma Rousseff; “I do not intend to rebut Your Excellency's note so as not to promote a rhetorical escalation incompatible with our institutional function. Your Excellency has your reasons. I have mine. But above both of us is the country,” says Renan; in the letter, Renan emphasizes that he has always sought to be a facilitator of “solutions aligned with the public interest and to participate in the debate in a constructive manner”

The president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), sent a letter today (5) to the Vice-President of the Republic, Michel Temer, in response to the note that Temer released last week in which he reprimanded Renan for public criticism of President Dilma Rousseff. “I do not intend to respond to Your Excellency’s note so as not to promote a rhetorical escalation incompatible with our institutional function. Your Excellency has your reasons. I have mine. But above both of us is the country,” says Renan.

Last week, the Senate president called President Dilma Rousseff's decision not to make an official address on radio and television for Labor Day "ridiculous." In his criticism of the president, Renan even said that Dilma "has nothing to say." The response from the Presidential Palace, through Vice-President Michel Temer, was to demand "institutional respect" from the president of Congress.

In the letter sent to Temer today, Renan emphasizes that he has always sought to be a facilitator of "solutions aligned with the public interest and to participate in the debate in a constructive manner." According to the Senate president, "any disagreements are part of the harmonization of democracy that governs the institutions."

Renan reiterates that he will no longer nominate anyone to fill positions in the Executive Branch and again emphasizes the role of independence that the Legislative Branch must have. "Independence is an indispensable condition for reciprocal control between the branches of government and should not be obscured by actions incompatible with the exercise of the Presidency of the National Congress."

In the letter, Renan Calheiros congratulates the Vice-President of the Republic on his role as the government's political coordinator. “I take this opportunity to praise your remarks. The concepts highlighted by Your Excellency bring us closer and reassure the Nation. I reiterate my wish that Your Excellency, at this critical moment for the country, successfully carry out your duties as political coordinator, and I offer my support for initiatives that enhance the mission we undertake.”
