Dirceu is acclaimed by PT militants in Brasília.
The former minister was greeted with shouts of "Dirceu, warrior of the Brazilian people" at the opening of the party's 4th National Congress.
During the opening of the 4th National Congress of the PT (Workers' Party) tonight, when the event's presenter was calling up the former national presidents and ministers of the party, former minister José Dirceu received a standing ovation from the militants. Dirceu was greeted with shouts of "Dirceu, warrior of the Brazilian people."
A report by Veja magazine revealed last weekend that José Dirceu – identified by the Attorney General as the "head of the gang" in the mensalão scandal – maintains a kind of parallel office in a luxury hotel in Brasília, where he receives ministers, senators, deputies, and even opposition leaders.
Seated alongside Dirceu at the table are former PT presidents José Genoino, federal deputy Ricardo Berzoini (PT-SP), the ministers of the Civil House, Gleisi Hoffmann, of Institutional Relations, Ideli Salvatti, the Minister of Communications, Paulo Bernardo, and the president of the PT, Ruy Falcão.
