Dirceu says PSDB has a "self-destructive vocation"

"The division within the PSDB in São Paulo, the country's largest city, after a historic defeat to the PT – which elected Fernando Haddad as mayor – only proves the lack of leadership and the self-destructive nature of the PSDB," wrote former minister José Dirceu on his blog this Friday. Dirceu, who was identified in the judgment of Criminal Action 470 as responsible for organizing the mensalão scandal, analyzes the PSDB split in São Paulo, which could lead former governor José Serra to leave the party despite appeals from Alckmin and FHC.

Dirceu says PSDB has a "self-destructive vocation"

247 "The PSDB is turning into a party of vendettas," assesses former minister José Dirceu. In a text published on his blogDirceu took advantage of the crisis in the PSDB in São Paulo to say that the party has a "self-destructive vocation." This week, councilman Andrea Matarazzo, one of former governor José Serra's closest allies in the party, abandoned the race for leadership of the PSDB in São Paulo after alleging he was sabotaged by secretaries in Geraldo Alckmin's government.

Former President Fernando Henrique and Governor Alckmin tried to put hot cloths In the matter, in an attempt to prevent Serra's departure to the newly created Democratic Mobilization (MD), the disagreements reinforced the impression that the former governor no longer feels comfortable in the party, especially after Senator Aécio Neves (MG) was acclaimed in São Paulo, in a ceremony in which he was launched for the national presidency of the party by Alckmin.

Split in São Paulo proves PSDB's self-destructive tendencies.

The division within the PSDB in São Paulo, the country's largest city, after a historic defeat to the PT – which elected Fernando Haddad as mayor – only proves the lack of leadership and the self-destructive nature of the party. Caught red-handed inflicting a humiliating defeat on the supporters of Serra, Governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB) pretends it's not his problem.

Thus, he leaves the bill to José Serra's arch-enemies, comfortably installed in the secretariats of Alckmin's own government – the Secretaries of State for Energy, José Aníbal, for the Environment, Bruno Covas, and for Planning, Júlio Semeghini. They elected an advisor from one of the secretariats as president of the municipal directory of the capital, former deputy Milton Flávio (from Energy), defeating the candidate of Serra's faction, councilman Andrea Matarazzo.

Amidst the gnashing of teeth from Serra's supporters, Governor Alckmin is playing to the gallery, or rather, to his own "allies": he now says he disapproved of the result of the election for the presidency of the PSDB's São Paulo state capital. "I didn't like the decision. My position has always been clear: there must be understanding, an executive committee in which everyone participates. It was Andrea's opportunity to be president of the party."

This is his response to the accusation made against him by members of the PSDB party linked to former governor José Serra, that the governor remained silent in the internal dispute, which allegedly facilitated the actions of his three secretaries, who conspired against the councilman. When questioned about the actions of his direct advisors, Alckmin was emphatic. "What I recommended was: Andrea as president, but everyone should reach a good understanding. Now, I'm not a colonel to force people to vote. I think it wasn't a good decision."

After the episode, Matarazzo hinted that he might leave the PSDB. His destination would be the Mobilização Democrática, a merger of the PPS and PMN parties, to which José Serra was invited and is considering joining. And the PSDB is thus becoming a party of vendettas: Alckmin, behind the scenes, doesn't support Serra in anything because Serra didn't support him when he ran for mayor of São Paulo in 2008; José Serra never supports anyone but himself; and Alckmin and Serra don't even hide the fact that they don't support the presidential candidacy of Senator Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) because the senator defeated them in Minas Gerais when they ran for president in 2002, 2006, and 2010.
