247 - Former governor and senator-elect for Maranhão, Flávio Dino (PSB), will join the transition team of the new federal government, led by former governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), vice-presidential candidate on Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) ticket. Dino will coordinate the area of ​​Justice and Public Security. "Alckmin informed me of Lula's desire for me to help coordinate the areas of Justice and Public Security, areas to which I have professional dedication. I will contribute during the transition so that the Bolsonaro legacy can be quickly removed," Dino said in an interview with [publication name]. UOL News, this Tuesday (8). 

"The debris I'm referring to is the belligerent legislation and the ideologization of the police, which ended up resulting in tragedies. We've had attacks now showing that the time has come for the law to prevail. It's the government's task to bring the police back into the realm of legality. This involves a series of administrative measures," he explained.

According to him, the measures that should be reviewed involve the repeal of laws, the re-registration of gun permits for civilians, and the implementation of measures aimed at encouraging the disarmament of the population. He is scheduled to travel to Brasília this Tuesday to meet with Alckmin and other members of the elected government's transition team.

Before being elected to the positions of deputy, governor, and senator, Flávio Dino was a federal judge [during which time he presided over the Association of Federal Judges of Brazil (Ajuf), the main professional association of the judiciary] and worked as an advisor at the Supreme Federal Court (STF). His name has also been mentioned as a possible candidate to assume the Ministry of Justice in Lula's government. 

When asked about the possibility of being nominated by Lula for a seat on the Supreme Court, Dino stated that he has no such ambition. "In 2006 I chose to leave 12 years of judicial service to become a politician, and I am very comfortable with that. I have never questioned it. In the real world, that doesn't exist. I am honored, it's a recognition, but it's not a project, a request, a dream, nothing of that sort. I am very happy in politics," he stated.
