247 - Minister Dias Toffoli, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), was elected this Wednesday (8) to the presidency of the Court for the next two years. The election is held among the ministers of the court themselves. Toffoli was elected with ten votes in favor and one against – it is common for the minister who will assume the presidency to vote for his vice-president.

After being elected, Toffoli thanked his colleagues and stated that replacing the current president, Minister Cármen Lúcia, is a "great challenge, but on the other hand, it is made much easier" due to her "smooth management, even with so many demands."

Also during Wednesday's session, Justice Luiz Fux was elected vice-president of the Supreme Court for the next two years.
