Desperate, Bolsonaro lies on TV and says Lula gets more votes in prisons.

Jair Bolsonaro cited businessman Abílio Diniz and a prison in São Paulo in an attempt to link the former president to crime. The Workers' Party candidate leads in all polls.

247 - Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) campaign used on Tuesday (11), during election time, an alleged ballot box report from the Tremembé Prison, in São Paulo, to say that the presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was the most voted among prisoners in Brazil. But no official document with the votes from all prisons in the country was presented, according to the FSP

The Federal Constitution provides for the right to vote for prisoners awaiting a final sentence. Only a definitive criminal conviction suspends the political rights of those incarcerated.

In Tuesday's advertisement, Bolsonaro's campaign showed an edited statement in which Lula allegedly mentioned a conversation with the kidnappers of businessman Abílio Diniz. 

In another passage, the Workers' Party member stated that he cannot bear to see young people "murdered by the police, sometimes innocent or sometimes because they stole a cell phone."

Bolsonaro was the target of more than 140 impeachment requests during his government. He was also the first occupant of the Planalto Palace to lose an election in the first round since reelection was approved in 1997.See the numbers at the end of the article.).

Kidnapping and Lula's version of events.

Currently a shareholder of Carrefour, businessman Abílio Diniz, who was part of Pão de Açúcar, was kidnapped on December 11, 1989, in Jardim Europa, a neighborhood in the western part of São Paulo. He was held captive for six days in the southern part of the city and was rescued alive. The police arrested all ten kidnappers. 

Abílio Diniz's kidnappers went on a hunger strike in 1998. On June 17th of this year (2022), Lula commented on the kidnapping while discussing his friendship with Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), who was Minister of Justice from 1998-1999 during the Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) administration. "I went to talk to FHC because they were on a hunger strike and were going to go on a dry strike (without eating or drinking), and then death would be certain (...) I said: Fernando, you have the chance to go down in history as a democrat, or as a president who allowed ten young people who made a mistake to die in prison, and that will never be erased," Lula stated. "I went to the prison on December 31st to talk to the boys and I said: 'you will have to guarantee me that you will end the hunger strike now'. They accepted the proposal, stopped the hunger strike and were released," he added.

The kidnappers were not released and were transferred to serve their sentences in their countries of origin. Five of the criminals were Chilean, two Canadian, two Argentinian, and one Brazilian.

Voting intentions

In the Ipespe survey, released this Tuesday (11), the former president appeared with 54% of valid votes, compared to 46% for Bolsonaro.According to the figures, the majority of votes Of the defeated presidential candidates Ciro Gomes (PDT) and Simone Tebet (MDB), it went to the former president. 

Another institute, Ipec, released figures on Monday (10) and also showed Lula in first position, with 55% of the valid votes. Bolsonaro received 45%..

In Brazil, Lula received 48% of the valid votes (57,2 million) in the first round of the election, compared to 43% (51 million) for Bolsonaro.
