PSDB deputies will formalize impeachment.

The leader of the PSDB party in the Chamber of Deputies, Carlos Sampaio, stated that the party caucus should present an impeachment request against Dilma Rousseff to the party president, Senator Aécio Neves (MG), "between Tuesday and Wednesday." This decision goes against the views of former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso and prominent PSDB figures like José Serra and Geraldo Alckmin, confirming a split within the party. "We respect the position of former president Fernando Henrique and the former senators who disagree, but the Chamber of Deputies is the one that decides. The caucus is clear that the moment calls for impeachment," Sampaio argued. The request will be based on the so-called "fiscal maneuvers" and the president's alleged omission in the Petrobras corruption scheme. The deputy claims to have 95% support from his colleagues in the Chamber and says he will convince Aécio.

247 - The leader of the PSDB bloc in the Chamber of Deputies, Congressman Carlos Sampaio (SP), stated that he intends to present, "between Tuesday and Wednesday," an impeachment request against President Dilma Rousseff to the party's national president, Senator Aécio Neves.

The decision goes against the thinking of former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso and leading figures in the PSDB party, such as Senator José Serra (SP) and Governor Geraldo Alckmin.

"We respect the position of former President Fernando Henrique and the former senators who disagree, but the House that decides is the Chamber of Deputies. The caucus is clear that the moment calls for impeachment," argued Sampaio.

Brazilian congressmen from the PSDB party are expected to accuse Dilma of malfeasance based on the so-called "fiscal maneuvers" and also for the president's alleged omission in the Petrobras corruption scheme, investigated by Operation Lava Jato.

The party is awaiting an opinion from jurist Miguel Reale Jr. that will provide legal support for the request, but Sampaio believes there are already sufficient grounds to remove Dilma from power, in addition to the support of 95% of the party's representatives.

"The motivations given both in the Petrobras scandal with her (President Dilma's) omission and in the fiscal maneuvers, with her behavior, are necessary elements," he said.

Aécio even defended impeachment if Dilma were held responsible by the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) for the government's accounts deemed irregular by the court, but in other statements, he showed caution, saying that the request would need to be very well substantiated.

Sampaio said he intends to convince the party president of the need for the request, as well as the Speaker of the House, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), who has already stated that there are no grounds for the process. "The decision has been made, impeachment is justified, and we don't need to wait for any further opinions," said the congressman from the PSDB party.
