247 - A complaint filed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo GonetA document submitted to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) on Tuesday (18) brought to light details of a plan to assassinate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes. According to the document, former President Jair Bolsonaro was aware of and agreed to the plot, which was part of a larger strategy to destabilize democracy and prevent Lula from taking office after the 2022 elections. informs the g1 portal.

The plan, dubbed "Green and Yellow Dagger," included neutralizing the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and carrying out violent actions against key state figures. According to the indictment, Bolsonaro allegedly agreed to the plan, which included assassinating Lula by poisoning and killing Moraes, seen as an obstacle to the group's interests.

"The plan was devised and brought to the attention of the President of the Republic, who agreed to it, at the same time that a report was released in which the Ministry of Defense found itself in the position of having to acknowledge the absence of detected fraud in the elections," the document says.

The indictment highlights that the former president adopted a "tone of rupture with democracy" since 2021, intensified after Lula became eligible following the annulment of his criminal convictions. The document states that Bolsonaro and his allies structured a "criminal organization" within the Presidential Palace, with the objective of undermining democratic institutions and implementing a new political order.

Operation "World Cup 2022" and Bolsonaro's role - The coup plot was part of a larger strategy, called "Operation World Cup 2022," which aimed to create social unrest and pressure the Army High Command to support a coup d'état. The indictment alleges that Bolsonaro and General Walter Braga Netto, his former running mate in the 2022 election, were the leaders of the criminal organization.

"The organization was led by the President of the Republic himself and his vice-presidential candidate, General Braga Neto. Both accepted, encouraged, and carried out acts classified under criminal law as attacks against the legally protected right to the existence and independence of the branches of government and the democratic rule of law," Gonet stated in the indictment.

Next steps - The complaint will be judged by the First Panel of the Supreme Court, composed of ministers Alexandre de Moraes (rapporteur), Flávio Dino, Cristiano Zanin, Cármen Lúcia, and Luiz Fux. If accepted, Bolsonaro and the other accused will become defendants and will face criminal proceedings in the Supreme Court. There is no set date for the trial yet, but it could take place in the first half of 2025.
