DEM goes to the Supreme Court against the increase in tax on imported cars.

The party's main argument is that the decree did not respect the 90-day period stipulated in the Constitution for the collection of taxes to take effect.

The DEM party today filed a Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (Adin) with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) against President Dilma Rousseff's decree that increased the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) levied on imported cars by up to 30 percentage points. The party is asking the STF to grant an injunction suspending the tax collection.

The DEM's main argument is that the decree did not respect a ninety-day waiting period stipulated in the Constitution for the collection of taxes. "The violation of the Constitution is blatant," said the party's president, Senator José Agripino (RN). The party also emphasizes that the measure will increase the cost of vehicles for consumers, and may also reduce the quality of cars on the market.
